This Friday night (tomorrow, April 16th) after the Battle of the Sexes, we're going to trial a NEW style of Partner Tourney in BGY!
The complete Match for each round will be 5pts in length.
The table will be set to 5pts. It will also be "Protected" and "Unrated" so that the players on the teams may freely stand and change seats with their partners during the match (at the end of individual games, not in the middle of a point).
Once at the table, each team will choose a color (red or white) and remain in that color for the length of the match. (If dispute about the color choice, the team with the lower "seeding" for the tourney will choose.) This will allow the teams to change seats with their partners after individual "games" within the match.
At the end of each game within the match, the players will stand give their seat to their partner. The game continues, and player switches are optional after each player has played at least one full game of the match. Player switches will not be made in the middle of a game (there might be an exception within the timer procedures noted below).
The cube may be used at any time during the match (within Crawford-Rule Guidelines)
The team reaching 5pts and winning the match will advance to the next round where the steps start all over again!
We will handle clocks and MIAs differently too.
Before match starts: If one of the players on a team is missing, the round can start with the remaining partner. Once it's the "missing" players' time to play, the clock on the team will start. If the 10-min timer expires without the player returning, and if there is a sub available, the sub can join the team and the match can continue. If non sub is available, the team with the missing player will forefit the match.
Match in Progress: If one of the players on a team vanishes or freezes and they HAVE ALREADY PLAYED at least one FULL game within the match, the partner may sit and finish the match without penalty. No timer will be started (unless that team advances to the next round, and then the procedure in the above step will be followed). If one of the players on the team vanishes or freezes and they HAVE NOT ALREADY PLAYED at least one FULL game, the clock will start as soon as their turn comes up. The procedure in the above step will be followed with regard to timers and subs.
No team may have more than one player change (Sub) during the tourney.
Clear as mud?
The procedures for this tourney (rules, timers, subs) are being trialed. Some things might work, and some might need to be changed. We ask you all to be patient and work with us here. If you all like this tourney style, we will add it to our list of tourney types. At that time we will clarify Sub and Timer rules to ensure consistency and fairness.
I hope you will join us on Friday, April 16th, at 21:00 in Lions Lair! We should have some fun!
