Through the tears, thanks for the prayers ummlizagain     1/10/2010 11:24

For those of you who have been keeping me in their prayers, thinking of me occasionally, or perhaps not even noticed I was gone... thanks so much. Been a long nine months (today). My oldest son "Jason" was killed in an automobile accident in Georgia. He was in the military, returned home (Arkansas) in late Dec of 08 to enjoy and pay for his sisters wedding Jan 1 of 09, just the kinda kid he was. (Thank you Lord for the family pictures) Stationed in Ft Bragg North Carolina, he was out for a 3 day pass to Georgia for some fun. Returning after his 4th deployment, we were all relieved and let down our guard. He was the passenger in a car with 3 of his buddies, one vehicle accident, and he was killed. In my worst nightmares I had envisioned the day some soldier tried to hand me a flag in place of my son, but it didnt go down like that, as heartbreaking as it was, I was filled with honor, pride, and love. Wow!! (Its never a good thing when the brass pulls up at your house) I had this child since I was 15 we grew up together, how? when? did he turn into a decorated war hero, like they were describing. Some 40 medals and accomodations later, they laid him to rest with the most incredible tribute imaginable. Ft Sill and Ft Bragg honor guards, chartered busses with his soldiers and superiors, 21 gun salutes, the works... And this was their 2nd memeorial as they had one in NC 3 days prior that I couldnt attend with over 1000 soldiers. They couldnt charter enough busses or issue enough leave for all. It was said they knew that somehow "docs" family would be different and they wanted to come. Two eulogies stand out in my mind looking back, one from his comrade who said "doc" was the kinda guy every girl wants to be with, and every guy wants to be like. He was the bad azz marine turned army intelligence that all admired, and desired on their team. The other from a Lt Col saying he knew what Jason would be most proud of, the fact that he brought every one of his soldiers home from every mission (something not so common, and to be extremely proud of apparently.) Somewhere somehow he turned into a great man, who continuously gave to his family (everything I own almost) friends, and country. A true loss to many. Continued prayers are asked as we now move onto a very difficult time again, the grand jury sets first of next month to charge the driver with 3 counts of homicide by vehicle. It is our families wishes that this young man (23) not be given any prison sentence, as I personally do not want another mother to lose her son, since our tragedy can not be reversed. "If you drink dont drive do the watermelon crawl" was one of Jasons favorite sayings, and they tried, but the designated driver failed him....tragic, and punishment enough I hope. My advice to people would be if you know someone experiencing a loss like ours ... say something, dont just ignore it in fear of upsetting them, they are thinking about it already I promise. Maybe I should write a book since this post was intended to be very brief. Looking forward to seeing my friends at the tables again.
