This was not a change that was arrived at casually. We have had a tremendous amount of feedback over a considerable length of time asking for something like this. A search of the club will find a great deal of discussion on this topic, all quite a while ago. The "voting" was done at that time, there was a strong consensus for change. If it seems a surprise, it is only so because it took quite a while to design the system to make this new process a reality.
We believe that this "resetting" of the quarterly ratings will benefit EliteLeague as a whole, will promote more activity in all leagues, and will more accurately reflect the current skilllevels of active players.
The "lifetime" ratings still exist, nothing has changed there. We have just added another dimension that will foster a better level of competition down in the trenches.
Of particular significance in making this change was the amount of negative feedback we have received on players "parked" at the top of the rankings who rarely play anymore: we have often been asked if there's not some way to have the current rankings/seedings reflect activity levels. This is our answer to that problem.
We believe that excellent players will rise to the top after each "reset", and we believe that all such "masters" of a game should welcome the chance to prove themselves afresh every quarter. We have, in fact, had several instances of players actually withdrawing from and reregistering in a league simply to reset their stats and prove to their fellow eliters that their high ranking was not a fluke. This will no longer be necessary. It will now be possible to accurately compare current skill levels within a realistic time frame.
We'd hope that everyone will relax and give this new dimension of competitive rankings a chance to prove itself on the fields of play.
