We are NOT "resetting the stats", in the sense that you are implying.
We have created a NEW statistical category, "performance by quarter". This new category weill, in fact, be reset quarterly, and its pourpose is to give all players a real-time yardstick by which they may measure their performance in an individual league.
For example, in the "Go Fish" league Tom_Terrific has a lifetime rating of 4,817, I have a lifetime rating of 2,795. We both are winning at exactly the same rate, but he's been playing Go Fish for 2 years now and I just got in 6 months ago. As long as we continue to win at the same rate, I can close the gap but never catch Tom, because he's been around longer.
A LOT of people have complained about this aspect of the Elite ratings.
The new, quarterly ratings are our answer to this. They exist solely for bragging rights. They allow any player who performs well to look at posted stats and see his/her name at the top. In the case above, if I outperform Tom by just a little bit this quarter, I get to see my name above his in the quarterly stats. This is absolutely a Good Thing. There is utterly no downside to it.
When we first proposed this, yes, there was an actuak change taking place, we were going to base SEEDINGS on the quarterly ratings. But the response to this was so negative that we have decided to keep the existing system in place for seedings.
Therefore, NOTHING HAS CHANGED. Everything operates exactly as before, except that we have a new measurement yardstick, and the potential for a new class of invitational tourney.
It's all good....
