Sports are a "man's" domaine originally... So stands to reason they'd have "man" in it
As for gender neutral wording -- I personally think it's a stupid practice.
I am a woman / Lady / Female / Chick -- whateverrrrr you want to call me... Even been called the B word on many occasions.
I am not THREATENED over the postMAN ; mailMAN ; policeMAN ; chairMAN stuff...
Because if you think about it...
ALL those could EASILY be post-WOMAN ; mail-WOMAN ; police-WOMAN ; chair-WOMAN
It realllllllyyyyyyyyyy is not hard to do.... But I guess SOME folks are scared by the "MAN" in all the words...
What would you like to rename MENOPAUSE...? Pesonopause?
How about AMEN? ...OMEN? ...MENU?
I can go on and on...........
I find it kind of rediculous for folks of this country to "just now" want to change the country... Loke that woman ohhh so many years ago who got "God" taken out of public schools... and the Pledge of Allegiance removed as well...
I have to say - I am not a very "God-fearing" person.. and I sure do not quote the bible... nor do I go to church, but darn it!! That day I went to my daughter's school when she was in 1st grade and she was -over the loud speaker - leading off the Pledge of Allegiance ... I WAS A VERY PROUD MOTHER... After all, I once did the SAME exact thing.
Interesting read ~~
Bellamy's original Pledge read, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. America"
~~~was changed to~~~
"I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all."
QUITE interesting read.. tee hee.
