This is a blanket reply to those of you who are requesting a rethinking of the monthly TOC issue.
First, be aware that the TOC always used to be monthly, and then some leagues (eventually all of them) started holding it weekly. We have watched this closely, and seen a decline in both the prestige and the attendance at TOCs as a whole over this long period of time.
Meanwhile, as we have more and more events of significance ocurring, Olympics, ELICs, Marathons, BOS and so forth, we have had distinctly crowded scheduling which we wanted to rationalize.
To those who asked that it be put to a vote of the players, we have had had frequent feedback on this, and it has tended to favor less-frequent and more-prestigious TOCs. The reason we are making the change is largely the prestige issue: we think the TOC's value as a tournament is diminished by its frequency.
Our objective in making the change was never to save costs, the payouts have actually increased (to 750Y), the team leagues now are on an equal footing in payout, the savings is minimal. And we expect a significant increase in entries, so the pot will be larger.
Let's all give it a try, ok? We think you'll come to love it.
As to the unlucky, the only change is that we have removed the restriction "must not have won" from it. We have many players who do not care to compete in a 250Y tourney, but have won at some point and are thus ineligible for the unlucky. But there WILL bge a parallel tourney, for 25Y, with a bonus, as before.
