This is best left for explanation by the Corp or our League Director, but I will give you one of the reasons--great or not--that this would have been done.
1) SFTDs, that host Hot Tournies, can have about 20+ league tournies to run (at maximum) at once every hour, plus secondaries. Clearing up some leagues that do not consistantly perform will help with their workload, and cut down on cancelled tournies.
2) Class 9 leagues are not necessarily gone forever, but more or less taken off for some reworking and revamping, and to allow some plan of strategy, maybe, for us to help bring it back.
And, finally, 3) we have a very small support team, so the ability to cover all of these leagues well, like we've been able to do for our other three leagues becomes increasingly difficult. In these 3 leagues that are doing relatively well, we have regular TDs that work as well in each individual league, as well as our Support team. This seems to have a big effect on how well a league does, when we can get TDs to join and help the effort, even if it isn't to join the league team. If we could get a few eager TDs to help us host in a few, I really do feel that it would be a lot more practical and possible to get quite a few tournies going and slowly bring it up.
For example, DOD. It was just as empty as POOL8D was for months while we lost most of our TDs. It wasn't until we got one of our TDs back that we finally began getting a bunch to start going, and are doing relatively well now.
Bottom line is, we just don't have the manpower at the moment to keep these running, as it takes dedicated TDs to help make them grow, and Hot Tournies don't have this effect.
Those are my thoughts at least.
