NEW Penalty Box for Rules Violations bear_music      5/27/2002 13:37

Effective Monday, May 27th EliteLeague is instituting a new “penalty box” as part of a systematic regularization of how we treat rules violations league-wide.

While we have always had rules, of course, the actual enforcement of them has been relatively spotty, with variations and inconsistencies from league to league within the Elite organization, and this has resulted in occasional confusion. It is in the best interests of all Eliters, staff and players alike, that we have consistent and logical enforcement of all rules.

Accordingly, we have defined 40 different categories of rules violations, ranging from such inadvertent problems as multiple disconnection up to actual, verifiable cheating by players. For each category we have specified a series of enforcement actions that should be undertaken by league and/or corporate management, and we have automated the process as much as possible.

It is our goal that there be considerable consistency, not just between leagues but between individual staff within each league, in the enforcement of all EliteLeague rules and policies. One thing has not changed: as always, the ultimate penalty for any repeated violation of league policies and rules will be the termination of the member’s account. However, the new system provides much more consistent notification levels before this happens, beginning with “warning mails” and progressing through “final warning” and various amounts of time in the penalty box, to outright termination of account in extreme cases.

There are two types of penalty box: “league” and “all”. League boxes will be used for most offenses, in terms of 3, 7 or 14 days. A player in the league penalty box will be barred from registering in any tournaments hosted by that particular league, but will still be able to participate in tournaments in other Elite leagues. Players in the all-leagues penalty box, of course, will be unable to participate in any EliteLeague tournaments as long as they are boxed.

It is not practical to list all violations and their suggested enforcement schedules here, but a complete list may be seen in Elite’s “Policies and Rules” under “EliteLeague Rules” at www.eliteLeague.com/games/main/rulespenalties.asp. Two specific examples, for purposes of illustration, follow. Bear in mind that the VP MR has wide discretion to adjust the penalties based on the severity and frequency of violations.

Tourney Play - Broke Game-Specific Rules —1st warning, 2nd warning, Final warning, PB/League 3 D, PB/League 7 D, PB/League 14 D, League Kick — (This covers such things as inadvertently bidding a loner in a no-loners Euchre tourney. All such actions result in tourney DQ by the TD, and are not considered “serious” violations, in the sense that they are errors rather than malicious actions)

Harassed TD - Attacked TD or other Staff — 1st warning, Final warning, League Kick, Elite Purge — (Such actions are considered very serious, as they are extremely disruptive of the league environment, and will be dealt with promptly and aggressively)
