Eliters has a process in place by which TDs may “bonus” the winners of their tourneys, up to 3000 YEPs, and this is handled automatically within the system. You specify a bonus when you create the tourney, and it is awarded at the close of the tourney.
We also have a procedure whereby any member may buy a “gift” membership for any other member, using either cash or YEPs. As soon as this became possible, we saw TDs moving to give away Silver memberships as prizes for certain special occasion tournaments, and this practice increased by leaps and bounds.
These Silver Giveaways are strictly a matter between the TD and the players, and are not “official” Eliters bonuses.
We have had problems with players complaining to the League that they “won” a silver membership and did not receive it. It is very difficult to verify this, and sometimes there is much confusion.
Also we have noticed a disturbing trend of TDs asking players and other TDs and Admin to donate “Silvers” for a certain Milestone tourney, for example. This is a potential source of embarrassment: If we don’t donate, we feel embarrassed to turn you down, if we DO donate then others we have turned down feel we don’t “like” them, and certainly we cannot meet every request.
For the above reasons, we have decided it is necessary to begin regulating Silver Giveaways. We are not going to do away with them altogether, but we have published in the TD Manual guidelines that MUST be followed when giving Silver memberships as prizes.
