The Elite Rating system was developed after a thorough analysis of all other rating schemes used by all other Play sites and Leagues; most had serious deficiencies and impracticalities.
Based on a very long experience in setting 100s of rating schemes in the past 35 years, the Elite Rating was developed using the following specifications:
>> To reflect skill as well as experience and activity.
>> To be easy to implement and understand by all those involved.
>> To be fair and applied consistently to all the population (Players in our case).
>> To be suitable for application on all Games (with all their differences in length and difficulty) that might be part of the rating system.
>> To be smooth in increasing or decreasing, avoid jumps in the rating due to exceptional cases or temporary or sudden change from one bracket to another.
>> To be stable and not to be changed unless a major change is introduced on the League objectives (example: to cease being a Tournament only League).
Whatever formula we use will appeal to some and will not appeal to others, also changing the present Rating System basis will create a lot of chaos and misunderstanding.
The only acceptable change, that will abide by the specifications stated above, is to eliminate the effect of adding Matches wins and Tourney victories after certain levels are achieved, so a Veteran Player will benefit mainly from the win % improvement after reaching these levels while keeping the motivation to play and win more matches and tourneys.
The rating formula will be the same with a minor change as follows:
[(MW%) + (TW% x 2)] x 2250 + (MW - ML) x MF + (TV x TF)
MW% = Matches Win % = Matches Won / Total Matches
TW% = Tourneys Win % = Tourneys Won / Total Tourneys Played
MW = Matches Won
ML = Matches Lost
MF = Matches Factor = 1 up to a ceiling of 750 points
TV = Tourneys Victories
TF = Tourney Factor = 5 up to a ceiling of 375 Tourney Victories.
The application of the above change will have the least change to the present Rating on the short term, and the least resentment too, and will open the door to all players on the longer term to advance to the top much faster while keeping motivation to the Veteran Players to compete based on the win % basis.
