Well your partner will expect you to know how to Meld bid. To be a successful bidder it is important to know how to count meld.

A min bid in pino is 50, and there are exactly 50 points to be had by taking tricks (As 10s and Ks, plus 2 pts for taking the last trick). And since you will very very rarely ever be able to get all 50 of those points, your meld counts toward your total score for the hand.

This is a sample meld sheet with values, I apologize that its in caps, I typed it for someone a while ago while hosting.

----------------------------------------------------

A IN EVERY SUIT = 10
DOUBLE A = 100

10'S ARE WORTH NOTHIN!

K IN EVERY SUIT = 8
DOUBLE K = 80

Q IN EVERY SUIT = 6
DOUBLE Q = 60

JACK IN EVERY SUIT = 4
DOUBLE J = 40

A MARRIAGE (K AND Q) IS WORTH 2
IF THE MARRIAGE IS CALLED TRUMP IT IS 4

IF YOU HAVE A 10 K Q J OF A SUIT ITS CALLED A RUN, AND ITS 15 (ONLY IF THAT SUIT IS CALLED TRUMP!!!)
IF YOU HAVE TWO OF EACH, ITS 150.

A PINOCHLE IS J OF DIAMONDS AND Q OF SPADES
1 SET = 4
2 SETS = 30
3 SETS = 45
4 SETS = 300

----------------------------------------------
If anyone sees a mistake or omission pls let me know but I believe its all here.

Keep in mind also when bidding that in Eliters pino you have to take 20 pts in tricks to keep whatever meld you have. So, this in mind, a hand with only 1 or 2 aces and 50 meld probably isnt one worth bidding on to keep. However, your partner would like to know how much meld you have, and this is where meld bidding comes in.

For each 10 meld you have, you jump 1 bid number above the last bid. For example, say you have a double pinochle and really not much else. Your partner bid 50, the next person 51. To tell your partner that you have 30 meld, you bid 54 and then when it gets back to you, you pass.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to ask me in lobby or on Yahoo! messanger.

GL today and always

Luckie
