I agree with you Mikey (obviously) that there should be some kind of sanction ... BUT (and that's a big but) technically, if the league were to adopt weekly tourneys rules, then why not just have weekly tourneys. These EDS tournaments are created to allow competition in such a way that the better the player is, the higher the rank they will achieve.
By arbitrarily awarding a game to a player that has made attempts to play their assigned matches, but wasn't able to because of their opponent, very much defeats the intended purpose of these tourneys. And what's worse is, the ready-and-willing player gets penalized again via the pocketbook. It is flat out unfair ... 250 yeps is a lot of yeps to invest in a tourney that has the potentiality of being manipulated by certain players (and yes, I understand there may be legitimate reasons that a player may not be able to finish a tourney).
Perhaps (and this doesn't really offer the player that's ranking is affected by the non-played match) there could be a penalty to the 'no-show' player like being suspended from any EDS tourney play for maybe 3 months. Still, past that, there needs to be some thought given to compensating the player that was ready to play the match ... a return of a portion of their yeps perhaps. But then again, that doesn't fix the problem of where that player will fall in the ranks, when technically they could have been a slot or two higher than they end up. It ultimately leaves you with the feeling of 'why bother playing in the first place.'
I have to say, I really like the idea of these EDS tourneys, but like everything new, there needs to be some refinements. Because of this problem though, I am personally hesitant to sign up for another one. Suggestions, suggestions ... we need some suggestions. Anyone?
