Re: Timers on tourneys cherannoneil     9/23/2008 12:16

I totally agree with you Diane about most all of what you have said in these posts. Although I was not present at the tourney in question, I have been DQ'd for running out of time more often than any other reason in QWERTY. The 2:00 min timer that keeps being mentioned is not even the one used in the majority of tourneys either. 90% of them are 1:30 min and as for timing out before playing the first word, the majority of players don't even know that rule. I have forfeited MANY times in that situation and until the TD happened to be at the table watching and told me that rule I never would have known it. It is NEVER stated at the beginning of tourneys. The ticking clock syndrome drives me crazy and although it was stated that 4:00 min (your 2:00 + opponent's 2;00) is plenty of time, THAT never happens either because many opponents are able to play within 10 seconds and most tourneys have 1:30 min timer anyway. So we're talking 1:45 min. per turn on average. As for the :45 tourneys - forget it. But at least I can avoid these. I think they should at least add a few tourneys other than hots with no forfeit timer and should have a longer timer for special events like the Olys and Decas.

I have played QWERTY in several other leagues and Eliters is the only one to allow NO EXTENSIONS. Most other leagues allow a set number (1,2, or 3).

LETS HAVE A PLAYER POLL ON THIS SUBJECT PLEASE (to the powers that be).
