Just a few comments from reading all of the posts --

1. The reason we added Forfeit Timers has NOTHING to do do with preventing cheating. Forfeit Timers were added because we had many complaints from Players about Players who took 3 or more minutes to play a word on each turn.

2. Pogo's default Forfeit Timer is one minute. In Qwerty, we do have some formats with 1:30 and 2.00 Forfeit Timers.

3. Several posts have suggested that we use Eliters Slow Play Rules instead of Forfeit Timers. Unlike other games, this is very difficult to monitor in Qwerty. TDs that host in Pogo can only be in one table at a time, and, in the case of Qwerty, TDs would need to be at a table for 6 or more minutes (if the guideline used is 2 minutes to play a word) before they could really determine if there was an issue of Slow Play. Monitoring Slow Play in most card games is much easier because most Players can play a card in 20 to 30 secs, so the TD may only need to watch the table for a minute or two. All of these issues were considered by corporate staff before we made the change to use Forfeit Timers.

4. As I noted in an earlier post, other leagues do use Timers, either by choice or because of game site restrictions (i.e. Bowling). In that post, I mentioned several leagues (including Holdem). I want to make it clear that I was not intending to make comparisons -- I am aware that Timers work differently in Holdem than Qwerty. My main point was that not all leagues are the same. What works for one league or one game, does not always work for another league as there are many differences from one game site to another and each game type (i.e. card games, word games, pool/snooker, etc.) has its own issues. I'm sure there are Players that may find 10 sec timers in Holdem to be too fast (I'm one of them), but obviously this timer is working well given how well Holdem is doing. I wouldn't expect a league to make changes for one or two Players.

5. Instead of eliminating Forfeit Timers, perhaps we could have some suggestions (and perhaps a Poll) on how much time folks feel they need. Personally, I feel 2 minutes is plenty of time for most Players -- including new Players. Pogo also allows for 2.30 and 3.20 Forfeit Timers. Does anyone think that there would be Players needing more than 3.20 minutes to play a word?

6. Finally, I don't think that the decrease in the number of Tourneys hosted in Qwerty has much to do with Forfeit Timers. Forfeit Timers were added in April and we had alot of activity back in April and May. At that time, we had more TDs on the team than we do now. Also, I have been dealing with some personal issues and I was not able to host as much as I was then.

In October, we will be celebrating our one year anniversary. We have several new formats for you all; many of these new formats were suggested by Players. We will also be releasing our first Qwerty Game Badge.
