Re: Timers on tourneys DMDesiderata     9/23/2008 16:38

This suggestion was considered by the Corporate Team back in November 2007 when we were first considering whether to use Forfeit Timers in QwertyP.

The Corporate Team decided against allowing for any Extensions because they felt that allowing for Extensions could potentially lead to disputes and complaints.

Way back in September 2007 when we were working on adding QwertyP as an Eliters League, I looked at many other Leagues to get an idea of different formats, timers, etc. I am aware that the other Leagues allow a set number of Extensions; in fact, I proposed allowing for 1 Extension per Match, when I suggested using Forfeit Timers to the Corporate Team. After hearing the feedback from them, I agreed with them that allowing Extensions could be problematic.

Since we had many Players asking for Forfeit Timers, we hosted two days of Tourneys using Forfeit Timers and then did a Poll in January, 2008 -- Poll 329 Results.

We are aware that Event Tourneys bring new Players to the League; this is the reason why we always use a 2 minute Forfeit Timer for the Olympics. Marathon Tourneys and Decathlon Tourneys use a variety of format types and timers.

We do realize this was some time ago and that changes may be needed from time to time depending on the current Player Base. However, we can't be making major changes every month or so. It took a long time to get Forfeit Timers approved by the Corporate Team, and even longer to get the formats with Forfeit Timers added. As I said, we were fist discussing Forfeit Timers in November 2007... and it wasn't until April 2008 until we had the Forfeit Timer formats added.

We also were proposing some new Variation Formats back in March 2008, if not earlier, many of which were suggested by Players. At that time, I was saving the suggestions so that I could make a recommendation to the Corporate Team to add them. We will start hosting the new formats next month. I know this may seem like a long time for things to get changed... but Eliters has over 35 Active Leagues, so the Corporate Team needs to prioritize their needs/wish list, and this can take time. This is why we can't be making changes every few months. It takes alot of time for the Corporate Team to add formats.

We are listening to the suggestions... and they WILL be considered. I am only trying to provide a bit of the history of things so that you all can better understand why changes are not made overnight. Eliters is the best League around (in part) because they do take the time needed to look at all the pros and cons, before making any change. The Corporate Team has alot on their plate with over 35 Active Leagues.

As HA, I will consider all reasonable suggestions, and do my best to get them implemented by the Corporate Team; please just understand that no change will ever be made without careful consideration of all the pros and cons, and this will take time.

As always, thank you for your support of QwertyP and Eliters.
