Completely irrespective of the merits of the proposal, here's something to consider:
When we created EliteLeague we specifically and consciously broke away from the "ladder" concept and went to performance rankings. In a ladder, your position in the rankings depends on who you are able to play. In the Elite system only tournament play is involved, there is no way that a player can be required toplay another opponent, they might lose in the tourney before they meet.
We are not going to change this aspect of the structure, it is what sets us apart. And the best solution we have found is the "active list". Perhaps it is possible to change the criteria for activity, this might be discussed, but we cannot move in the direction suggested and penalize people for not "defending" their ranks.
And the idea of penalizinf people for not playing in a specific tournament is, as aaa pointed out, absolutely absurd, you have got yo be kidding.
