Jack Of Diamonds Variation

One common variation of the game is the "Jack of Diamonds" variation, offered in Specific JOD rooms In this version of the game, the player who takes the Jack of Diamonds in a trick during play is rewarded with a -10 point bonus, making it a card you want to try to capture. It is not necessary to catch the Jack of Diamonds in order to Shoot the Moon.

No interference

It is crucial to understand that Eliters has players of every level, from expert to social, and that each player has the right to make his/her own decisions as how best to play a given hand. Elite Staff will NOT attempt to regulate player strategy in any way. There are no rules (nor will there ever be) that a player must “pass a low heart" or "give the queen of spades to the low man”, or other such strategic concepts. While these may be excellent tactical moves that most players have adopted, it is NOT required that a player follow these procedures.

Every player has the right to play the cards as s/he sees fit, and the right NOT to be pressured by other play. Any player who tries to persuade or instruct other players on "correct" card play will be noted for “Player Harassment”, and dealt with accordingly under Elite Policy.

Tramming, as used in Hearty is an abbreviation for, "The Rest Are Mine".  When used in the context that follows, it is defined as "pushing the tram button" on the game board.  Doing this results in the player pushing the button taking the remaining tricks and ending that round when they might not have actually taken the remaining tricks, depending on how the cards are played.

1X3 & 2x2 Formats:

Tramming is NOT permitted in 1X3 and 2x2 Eliters Hearts Tourneys at any time. Primarily, this is not allowed as it is possible to manipulate the final results, ensuring a benefit to the "Trammer" or another Player at the table. For this reason and others, the use of the "TRAM" option is not allowed in all 1X3 and 2x2 Hearty tourneys in Eliters.

If any Player violates this rule, all play should be stopped immediately and the TD notified. The Tramming player shall be disqualified, unless it falls under the one exception to this rule. The one exception to this rule is IF the TD determines this was done by a new Member and, in the TDs opinion only, it was not an intentional attempt to circumvent Eliters rules.  In this case, the TD may give the new Member one warning for the first offense.

If a Player is DQ'd under this section, the TD may sit and finish out the match as necessary, giving preference to a Sub or Bot. If it is determined by the TD that the trammed player potentially changed the outcome of the match, a new match will be started using the scores from the hand immediately prior to the trammed hand as the starting scores in the new match.  The TD will score the match manually until a winner and/or runner up is determined.

1X1 Format:

The only time "TRAM "is allowed in 1x1 Format is to end the game early on the LAST HAND when the outcome has already been determined.  In other words, if match point is to 55, and the Trammed player knows they went over 55 and there is no way they can win, then tram is allowed to speed up the game and allow the winner of that match to continue onto the next match and not drag out play when the game has already been determined.

If "TRAM" is pressed and the player who trammed did not go over the match points, the trammed Player will be DQ'd as this could possibly change the entire outcome of the game and manipulate the final results.

Force Forfeit

If a match is Force Forfeited by a player on a rated table, that player will be Disqualified. Each remaining player at the table should immediately make NOTE of the Scores before the FF, and the TD notified immediately. A new match will be started with a sub seated in place of the disqualified player, and the TD will score the match manually until a winner and/or runner up has been determined.

Reverse Hearts

Just the "reverse" of Regular Hearts, matches are won by the player with the highest score at the end of the match. The object of Reverse Hearts is to try to get as many points as you can, without shooting the moon. So a pat hand would be to Go for a moon, but miss it by one heart, thus gaining 25 points.

2 Players Tourneys

If the tourney is played as a 1 x 1; the 2 players will sit facing each other with bots in the remaining 2 seats .
In case of tie players will start new match and play until tie is broken.

Team Tourneys

Team Tourneys From a mechanical point of view, the game is played as a normal Hearts game, and when one or more players exceed the nominal points for that match (50, 75, 100, etc) the match is over.

When the match ends, the TEAM to which the losing PLAYER belongs loses the match. The captain reports the loss for that team, and the other team advances.

Note this carefully: it is possible for you, as an individual, to have the best (lowest) score, and yet for your TEAM to lose the match. The only time "best score" is relevant is if the teams are tied for worst (highest) score.

If you are playing a team tourney, and do not already have a partner lined up (for Partner Select (PS) formatted tourneys), please be in the tourney room at least 15 minutes prior to the tourney's scheduled start time to arrange a partner. For System Select (SS) formatted tourneys, a partner is selected for you.  Please be in the tourney room at tourney's scheduled start time.  For details please refer to Partners Tournaments (2x2).
