Spades (Safe Harbor) Last Update: 6/25/2014

Welcome to Eliters Spades Safe Harbor League (SPADY).

All Spades Tourneys are Team Tourneys. If you do not have a partner lined up for a Partner Select (PS) Tourney, please arrive at least 15 minutes early to find a partner. Many Tourneys are System Select (SS) and do not require locating a partner as the system will create Teams.

Spades has two basic table settings: Standard (default setting) and Suicide. All tables should be created with "allow idle forced forfeiting" option checked, then "Protected" with Kibitz feature unchecked.

Tables should be set with the following options:

  • Protected, not Private, unless directed otherwise by the hosting TD.
  • Select Standard (default setting) or Suicide as per Tourney Special Rules.
  • Double Nil (DN) Passing is OFF except in Suicide matches. Check Tourney Special Rules in Suicide Tourneys.
  • Check Allow idle force forfeiting, unless clearly specified otherwise in Tourney Special Rules.
  • Un-check Allow Kibitz.

Rated or Unrated, how to set the table:

  • Any games with limited number of hands will be played at Unrated Tables. (3/500, 4/500, 5/500, 6/500, 7/500, 8/500).
  • Any full game format will be played at Rated Tables (500).
  • Partners sit opposite each other (unless stated otherwise in “Tourney Special Rules”).

Round Points

Points or Scores

  • 500 = The first Team to score 500 points advances

The letter h will be used to specify the Number of Hands to Play; to be followed by the Points or Score to end each Game; examples:

  • 4h500 = 4 Hands to 500 Score; the first Team to reach 500 advances
  • 5h500 = 5 Hands to 500 Score; the first Team to reach 500 advances
  • 6h500 = 6 Hands to 500 Score; the first Team to reach 500 advances

Wins to Advance

The letter w will be used to specify the Number of Games to Win to advance; to be followed by the Points or Score to end each Game; examples:

  • 2w500 = 2 out of 3 Games up to 500 Score; the first Team to win 2 Games to 500 advances
  • 3w500 = 3 out of 5 Games up to 500 Score; the first Team to win 3 Games to 500 advances

Spades Safe Harbor League (SPADY) will run Tourneys in the following formats; the main format being SE 2x2:

  • SE (Single Elimination - 2x2): See Help Topic 2211.
  • Q4 (Quick for 4 - 2x2): See Help Topic 2213.
  • DE (Double Elimination  - 2x2): See Help Topic 2221.
  • RR (Round Robin  - 2x2): See Help Topic 2231.
  • SR (Super Robin - 2x2): See Help Topic 2232.

The following General Tourney Rules will be observed in all SPADY Tourneys:

  • For reasons of expediency, nearly all Eliters Spades Tourneys are played to 500 points or to a set number of hands. Check the Tourney page for instructions.
  • If the specified number of hands is played with neither team having scored 500 points, the team with the most points is awarded the match.
  • If the teams are tied on points and bags as well, a tiebreaker hand will be played.
  • All Multi-Day Tourneys are always played to a full 500 points without a hand limit.
