Substitution Program Last Update: 3/6/2013

fiogf49gjkf0d

The Substitution Program is an attempt to alleviate Players being penalized when a partner does not show or gets booted. It provides an automated way to allow Subs in partner tourneys so that a Player is not penalized for his partner being a no show at start of tourney or gets booted during a tourney. This is why Hosting TDs are now allowed to Substitute in their own Tourneys.

The Substitution Program is also available in 1x3 Tourneys to ensure continuity of the match and to avoid the use of Bots.

Sub Available List

A "Sub List" will automatically be created when the tourney starts, so that if the need arises, a Sub may be found in plenty of time.

  • Any Player who is withdrawn from tourney because of no partner, or being removed because of exceeding the pairings requirements or the Tourney size, will be automatically placed on the Sub List, and will be given priority in the selection of Subs.

  • Any Player not able to participate because tourney was fully booked, or any Player who withdraws from tourney because of no partner, may register as a Sub using the "Register" link that will appear right after the "Tourney Standings".

  • Any additional Players willing to Sub should go to the Tourney Page and register as a Sub using the "Register" link that will appear right after the "Tourney Standings".

  • Players listed on the Sub List should remain in the Room, and check the Lobby and Eliters Messenger as frequently as possible.

  • If the first listed Sub is not in Room when needed, the TD will look for the next on the list, and if none are in Room or no Players are registered on the Sub List when the need arises for a Sub, the TD will solicit Subs and will use the first Player to respond as the Sub. The Player should immediately register as a Sub.

  • The Player who is in need of a Sub for their team does not have a choice of which the Sub will be. This is determined by the order of registration on the Sub List.

  • If the Sub's team loses the match, the system will remove the Sub and replace with the original player, and therefore the Sub will be made available again on the Sub List; s/he will have another chance to Sub, but the TD should make sure that this Sub does not have priority over the other Subs not seated yet. This is not for DE/SR/RR tourneys.

  • Registered Players in the Tourney should never be allowed to register in the Sub List, even if they lost or Disqualified for any reason.

Substitution Procedures

  • If a Player is a no show for tourney or gets booted, TD will start the process of alerting the first person on Sub List, when the time out clock reaches 3 minutes.

  • If the first listed Sub is not in Room when needed, the TD will look for the next on the list, and if none are in Room or no Players are registered on the Sub List when the need arises for a Sub, the TD will solicit Subs at Game Site Lobby. The TD will use the first Player to respond as the Sub. If no one available at Game Site, then TD can utilize messenger to solicit Subs as well. The goal is to have a Sub available at the game table and ready to play by the 5-minute mark on the time out clock.

  • If Player is not back when the time out clock reaches 5 minutes and a Sub is available, then the Sub will sit at that time. A short delay (a minute or two) is acceptable in seating the Sub, as long as the Sub has been FOUND by the 5 minute point.

  • If a Sub is not found by the 5 minute point, the team with player missing is Timed Out.

  • Once a Sub is identified, seated and playing, the TD should use the Substitute Link on the Tourney Admin page, this will lead the TD to the Substitute form to select the Substitute from the drop down List. Selecting the Sub on the Substitute form will replace the original absent Player by the Sub on the Tourney page and Standings.

  • Once a Sub is seated, the team consisting of the original remaining Player and the Sub is considered a "new" team, and this team has a new set of 2 incidences of 5 minutes clock available for the remainder of the tournament.

  • When a Sub has been seated s/he continues the match from wherever it was left off. In 2x2 Tourneys, the following procedures shall apply:
    • If the Sub's team loses the match, The Original Player will take back the seat, and the Sub will be considered as never officially entered in the Tourney by the TD and the loss will be charged to the original team.

The intention of the rule is simple: We don't want the Sub to bear the burden of being charged with a loss when s/he entered a match in a hopeless position. And this is frequently when you need a Sub, if a player has left in anger or disgust. Also we want to the original Player to benefit from any standing they already achieved before being replaced (Semi-Finalist or Runner-Up).

    • If the Sub's team wins, the reporting will proceed as usual, and from this point on all tourney stats, including Matches Win/Loss, Tourney Played/Victory, and YEPs won, will be recorded for the "new" team of original remaining Player and the Sub.

  • In a 1x3 S4 and Q4 Tourneys (Hearts and Hold'em), the TD should follow the original practice of placing the Sub once they win and before reporting the match.

  • In a Double Elimination (DE), Super Robin (SR), or Round Robin (RR), even if the first match played by the Sub is lost, the Sub will continue to replace the original Player in the Tourney Standings and for all matches including the lost one.

This should not apply if the match is the final in DE, or the Tie breaker in RR; the Sub should only replace the missing Player if s/he wins; i.e. to follow the original practice of placing the Sub once they win and before reporting the match.

  • In the event there is multiple timers from start where multiple players are timed out simultaneously; the following rule will apply:  Subs will be placed in order of seeding:  ie  Seed  4 team and Seed 5 team: The first available sub will be placed on 4th Seeded team and the second available sub will be placed on the 5th Seeded team.

  • The TD should exercise the highest care when substituting a Player; should check if the Player substituted is the correct Player, and the Substitute selected is the correct one. Making an error in selecting the Player or the Substitute cannot be corrected; the TD should not attempt to Undo the substitution or the match reporting; s/he may continue the tourney on paper and by submit a Ticket using the Category Tourneys >> Tourney Error; for fixing the error and finishing the Tourney.

  • No more than one Sub per team is allowed per tournament. If the "new" team uses its 5-minute clock, it is timed out.

Who can Substitute?

  • Players already participating in the tourney, even if they were eliminated, may not substitute.

  • A Player who was seated as a Sub and lost in that match (thus never officially entered into the tourney) may be returned to the Sub List.

  • Any Premium Member may substitute in any Tourney, including Invitation Tourneys.

  • Guest Members may only Sub in a tourney of 50 YEPs or less.

Further Information

  • At no time does Elite guarantee a Sub will be found.

  • At no time will the original Player be refunded their entry fee.
