What do you like to do away from the computer?
I do?t know away from the computer!!!! I work on the computer all day and I manage a 30 strong team developing educational resources and delivering online professional development. At home I have a huge ebay store that started out as a hobby and has become way too big way too quickly, so that takes up a lot of my time. Of course, I love to clean the house and ironing is a treat that I allow myself -- when I run out of clothes!!
Lately, I have been working on a project to try and childproof the house – but its not working out too well as they keep getting in!!!
How did you learn about Eliters and when did you join?
I learned to play euchre when I was young – there was nothing else to do in a small wheat belt town, and I really missed it when I moved to the city so a friend got me into Yahoo Games. I kept inviting this guy called Bo McBride to play euchre and he kept sending me a decline with a link to Eliters - so I joined.
How did you pick your Eliters' Name? Is this your one and only?
I joined under an old ID but changed it to this one after a couple of weeks – couldn’t believe how many Debs there were in Eliters so I changed it to my childhood nickname.
What is your preferred play site? And why?
Yahoo – but my patience was sorely tested when they upgraded the euchre site – I need to get rid of the underscore from my ID to play in the other sites.
What made you keep coming back to Eliters?
I love the fun competition and the challenge. Eliters is where I go to de-stress, have fun and relax and there are lots of good people in Eliters.
How long have you played games online?
A little over a year in Eliters and about 6 months before that.
What games do you play? And what is your favorite game and why?
I am a TD in euchre and I play there a lot too – the players in Euchy rock. I can play pool, hearts and spades and I love gin. Gene is teaching me to play canasta. I can play crib but need a refresher as it’s been years since I played – as soon as I get up to speed I will join both leagues.
Have you learned any new games since being a part of Eliters?
Well the plan when I joined was to learn them all - I figure I have plenty of time.
When did you become a TD, and what made you decide to do so?
I joined Hearts as a TD first and after a short break, Bo suggested that I apply to Euchy. I started in Euchre in April this year and am planning my 1000 tourney milestone for early January.
What positions have you held in Eliters and is there anything that you haven't done that you would like to do in the future?
I was a td in hearty for a while and now I am an AGL in euchre – I haven’t been a HA yet but one day I will be.
Who is the one person that you can say has helped you the most here?
I don’t have one person – everyone has helped me in Eliters. Lawman was my first trainer, and he essentially taught me to TD, so I have a soft spot for him. EJ was also a great teacher in Euchre. The admin teams in Hearts and Euchy, the TDs, and the players have all been great.
In your opinion, what makes Eliters different from other leagues?
I love Eliters – I have never been in another league and don’t think I would join another.
What in your opinion is the best thing about Eliters?
The team spirit of Eliters is inspiring. When I think about the big picture, it’s incredible that I could know so many diverse people from around the world.
If you had one wish what would it be?
Hehe† in Eliters I would wish that everyone could come to Australia for a live event.
My biggest wish right now is that the war would be over so my new grandson’s daddy doesn’t have to go on a tour of duty in January.
What is the most memorable experience that you have had as a TD or a player, online or at a live event?
The Great Aussie Barbecue in euchre was an event that I cohosted with some other Aussie TDs: marg, jules and kapstern. We posted a new Aussie post every day for a week leading up to a full morning of bonus tourneys. We had an Aussie menu, Aussie music and a line up of Australian personalities, including the prime minister, who officially opened the ceremonies, along with Nicole Kidman, Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin. I laughed non-stop for the whole 4 hours and everyone had a great time.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you since joining Eliters?
Aussie barbeque again: Iceprincess looking after Stev?s croc while he had a beer and her hilarious description of trying to get the Prada leash on a 20 foot croc....just too funny
Oh and every morning in euchy is a hoot – slotgal brings the bagels and val has the homebrew for the Aussies – didn’t know you could have that much fun with bagels and beer.
The most embarrassing thing, which you can talk about of course.
I still blush at the thought of everyone cracking up in the lobby when I arrived 24 hours early and spammed the lobby for my first milestone tourney in euchre. I finally got my head around the time difference and then they bought in daylight saving *@*#
If you could be one person for a day, who would you be and why?
Without a doubt I would be Byron…get up go check on the cows – go have a game of gin – feed the cows – host a few – ride on the tractor - read for a while, have a port, play some more gin…..I miss the country.
You are stranded on a deserted island, no internet, no phone, no TV, walking along the beach, you come across...
Initially I would be shell shocked – no Internet!! I don’t watch TV and I can never find my phone so I would grab the latest Bryce Courteney novel out of my giant handbag that has no bottom and is full of good things, grab some mangoes off the nearest tree and read my book in the shade and wait for the rescue squad from euchre to find me – they always seem to be able to track me down.
How do you pass the time on your drive to and from work?
Make notes for the day at all the red lights on the way to work – sing along to radio - Return calls on the hands free on the way home.
What’s in your CD player right now?
U2 – fave song ever is One.
When I grow up I want to be just like:
My high school science teacher – he taught me that teachers really can make a difference.
If you could only use one sentence to describe the way you feel about Eliters, to a prospective new player, what would it be?
I hope you have as much fun as I have - Eliters rocks.
