Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Not much to tell. Single mother of 2 beautiful daughters. IÜretire? from the Postal Service after a couple of heart attacks and have since dedicated myself to adult literacy and volunteering for wome?s shelters.
What do you like to do away from the computer?
Read, crochet, spend time with my family.
How did you learn about Eliters and when did you join?
Playing cribbage in Yahoo someone spammed the lobby, I was a bit tired of the less than family like atmosphere of some of the lobbies. The Eliters seemed to be a friendlier bunch than some of the other leagues that regularly spammed so I decided to give it a try. I joined in June of 2002.
How did you pick your Eliter's name? Is this your one and only?
My first Eliters name was kanakesan, a combination of my name and those of my 2 daughters, KANdace is my youngest daughter, AKEdra is my oldest, and then casSANdra for me. Is this your one and only? Not even close the first name change was actually due to yahoo though. They took banned the IDs of a lot of TDs for violating their TOS by spamming messenger. This was different from the lobby bans happening now. We werenít just locked out of the lobby for a few days, we were actually banned from yahoo period messenger and all.
What is your preferred playsite and why?
Yahoo mostly because it is where I started. I have played and enjoy playing on all three sites
What made you keep coming back to Eliters?
Simple - it is fun.
How long have you played games online?
What games do you play? And what is your favorite game and why?
Simpler to answer what I donít play and those are just the struggling leagues because I have never found an open tourney and bridge because I donít know how. I donít have a favorite per se; itís not the games that draw me itís the people. Spades, Euchre, Cribbage are the ones I play the most.
Have you learned any new games since being a part of Eliters?
Practically every thing I play was new to me. The only games that I play where the real time rules are the same is dominoes and cribbage. All the rest I had to learn to play or adapt the rules that I knew.
What positions have you held in Eliters and is there anything that you haven't done that
The TD positions, the GL positions, AA and HA, SFTD. As for the future, I like being challenged, so there is most likely more out there for me to do. For the moment I am working to build the leagues up.
Who is the one person that you can say has helped you the most here.
I really had to think really hard about this one because there were so many answers but I guess it really would have to be lisaleasah, she has always answered all my questions (and there have been many) even when I knew I was bugging her. There have been a couple times over the years where she has had to reprimand or put me in my place but she still remains available to help however she can.
In your opinion, what makes Eliters different from other leagues?
My answer to this question is a bit different than the standard one. Most say itís the people, thatís true to a certain extent, but I think what makes Eliters stand out is the upper administration. They listen and react to not only the players but to their frontline as well. It is a privilege to host when you know that as long as you follow the rules to the best of your ability, your Tourneys are just that, YOURS. No one is going to come behind you and nitpick every decision. That kind of autonomy makes a TDs job a joy. And the appreciation they show by listening to us and implementing what will make the games and sites easier for the players and the TDs. Where else could you volunteer and get that?
What in your opinion is the best thing about Eliters?
If you had one wish what would it be?
That everyone could spend a day in the life of the person they complain about the most.
If you could only use one sentence to describe the way you feel about Eliters, to a prospective new player, what would it be?
Absolutely the most fun you could have for the price and a chance to make life long friends.
What is the most memorable experience that you have had as a TD or a player, online or at a live event?
The first tourney I hosted was in CanaY and had upwards of 30 people in. I was so scared I think I shook through the whole thing.
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you since joining Eliters?
I fell asleep at the keyboard during a SpadY Marathon. Was?t funny then, especially not to my partner, but I think she has forgiven me.
What is the most embarrassing thing, (that you can talk about of course).
I was hosting in CanaY, and I went to all the tables and typed the usual Good Luck and Have Fun. Went back to the lobby and a few minutes later one of the players typed in the lobby that play was stalled on one of the tables because the players were following my instructions. I went to the table and discovered that I had actually typedÜ&. Well just think of the most embarrassing way you could typo "Good Luck" Ö..
If you could be one person for a day, who would you be and why?
My youngest daughter, so that I could impart some of the knowledge I have learned from my mistakes.
You are stranded on a deserted island, no internet, no phone, no TV, walking along the beach, you come across...
72 Eliters, 2 cases of cards, 4 each of domino, backgammon, chess, checkers, and cribbage boards, and LOTS of paper and pencils (how else are we going to host paper tourneys?)
How do you pass the time on your drive to and from work?
By staying at home. LOL
What is your favorite book/author?
My favorite book or author is always the one I am reading at the time. M y mother once said I would read anything between a cereal box and an encyclopedia
What's your guiltiest pleasure?
I do?t have anyÜguilt? pleasures, life is too short.
When I grow up I want to be just like:
I havenít the slightest intention on ever growing up.
Any last words for our readers?
Eliters was designed for us to relax and have fun with a little friendly competition thrown in. If you are?t having fun, you are?t doing it right.
