Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I am a dairy farmer and was married for 35 years to a woman who truly rocked my world. Have one son I am immensely proud of, one Siamese Princess who now rules the roost, 7 Nubian goats, and 35 Holstein cows, along with one ornery ole cuss bull. Retired from fixing computer hardware, almost retired from the dairy but have to keep my hand in just a bit. We raise corn and soybeans as cash crops, and I have a garden that I enjoy tremendously. Especially the eating part of it!
What other interests or hobbies do you have (other than Eliters of course)?
I could read till the cows come home (literally!) and I love to cook. My cakes have taken blue ribbons at our small county fairs!
How did you learn about Eliters and when did you join?
I saw the spam in Doy, and after it seemed that the league was full of nice folks, went to play gin and fell in like with the folks there. Frannie aka nono kept asking if anyone wanted to be a TD, and I fell for it, hook, line, and sinker…lol. She trained me and helped me keep what little sanity I possess. I have had to cut back on my hosting but enjoy it when I am up to it. I was diagnosed with leukemia last year and there are times that I am just not with it or too tired to do it, but Chouette and Lynn let me stay on the roster and I try to give em my best when I can.
How did you pick your Eliters' Name - does it have any special significance?
Not really any special significance, just everyone was always telling me (in real life) "You crack me up!" so when I went to get an anonymous email, I thought about that and how I can't help but crack jokes and how much I laugh and thought, why not? Also because I do crack me up too at times, usually when I have done something really stupid, like frying bacon without a shirt on …lol…(kids, don’t try that at home) or tripping over a cow patty and breaking my thumb.
Tell us something unique or interesting about yourself that we are unlikely to know.
I have had a few articles published and would love to write professionally.
What makes Eliters special?
Just as in real estate, its location, location, location…in Eliters, it’s the people, the people, the people…everyone from the newbies with some very interesting at times questions, to admin who is always thinking up new fun stuff, to the TDs who work so hard to bring us games for us to enjoy, not to mention putting their hard won/worked for yeps up as bonuses.
What games do you play? Are there any other games you would like to try?
Gin, Dominoes, Gin, Spades, Gin and I am trying to learn Euchre and Cribbage, would like to learn how to play pinochle again, and backgammon. I play hearts on my p.c. and would like to learn how to play that online with all the special rules too. I played a lot of these games when I was much younger but once I got out of college I really didn’t have time to play and have forgotten everything I once thought I knew…lol…by the way, did I mention Gin?
What is your absolute favorite game - and who taught you to play?
Gin and my rabidly cheating obnoxious father taught me … lololol…
Do you currently hold any position in Eliters? Is there any particular position you would be interested in?
I am a sometimes TD in Giny and I would like to achieve the awesome title of the first holder of the Whiners badge should it ever become available.
What is your proudest achievement in life?
There are three – I simply can not limit it to one. Marrying my Linda, holding on to our family farm in the face of what seemed like sure bankruptcy during the early 80's, and seeing my son get his Doctorate from M.I.T this past year.
What is the most important thing for you in tournament play?
The camaraderie, the jokes, the feeling of family having a good time together.
If you could offer one suggestion to improve Eliters, what would it be?
Get rid of the political club…lmaoooooooooo…just kidding!
If you had one wish what would it be?
That not one person ever had to go to bed hungry or in danger from war.
If you could only use one sentence to describe the way you feel about Eliters, to a prospective new player, what would it be?
That Eliters offers the finest games and the finest folks you will ever play with or against.
What is the most memorable experience that you have had as a TD or a player, online or at a live event?
Hosting my 101st tourney. My first big m.s. tourney all on my own. I had over 50 folks in it and was soooo afraid I would get lost. Tanya aka sattfire talked me out of my nerves and offered any help she could. I will always bless her for that. It was the easiest tourney I have ever hosted. There were no timer requests, everyone had a good time, and I began to think that there might be hope for me as a TD after all!
What is the funniest thing that has happened to you since joining Eliters?
Man, thats a tuffie but I think it would have to be anything involving my brotha from anotha motha Mikey aka desires_no1…lol…we tend to work off each other and it gets pretty deep at times.
What is the most embarrassing thing that you have experienced (that you can talk about of course).
Being called down for teasing someone who thought I wasn’t joking when I called her a hussy!
If you could be one person for a day, who would you be and why?
Cary Grant, not only was he handsome and charming…he had the good sense to be born in Britain and lived during the period of history I am gaga over, (the period between the two world wars) and lived/worked in areas that fascinate me.
You are given five minutes to evacuate your house, the kids and pets are safe - which three items would you grab?
My wife’s and my wedding picture, my laptop, and a case of my homemade apple butter.
How do you pass the time on your drive to and from work?
Usually by looking at the stars over the barn as I walk over to it to start up the milking process, and thanking the Lord I get to see them again, then when I come back, I get to see the home my wife and I worked our fannies off to restore and remodel. (It was built in 1894 originally and by the time we got to it, it needed a lot of help!)
Name your three favorite movies:
Dances with Wolves, Fried Green Tomatoes, The Philadelphia Story.
Do you have any particular heroes?
George Carlin, Woodrow Wilson, Frank Capra and Issa!
What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Brownies or maybe Cheesecake (its a toss-up there) while reading a new mystery.
When I grow up I want to be just like:
Would it be conceited to say me?…I like me, I worked real hard to get to where I am and I want to enjoy it a bit yet ;-)
Any last words for our readers?
Smile and make the world wonder what you’re up to!
